NMSU Guthrie Hall Bomb Threat (October 9, 2007)

Email to all NMSU administrative offices:
A bomb threat led to the temporary evacuation of Guthrie Hall, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces campus (October 9, 2007).

The bomb threat was received at approximately 11:35 am. The caller indicated that a bomb was in Guthrie Hall. The NMSU Police Department responded and conducted a search of the building. An unattended briefcase found in a hallway of the building resulted in a request for Dona Ana County Bomb Squad technicians to conduct a closer examination. The briefcase was found to be harmless, and explosive detection dogs searched the remainder of the building without incident.

The building was re-opened for normal business at 2:00 pm. A joint investigation into the threat is being conducted by the NMSU Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the caller is asked to call the NMSU Police Department at (575) 646-3311.
